Welcome to Art Room Discoveries with Mrs. Smullin!

Hello to my Golden Hill Eagles, families and friends who have made their way to my page!  I am so excited to get my blog up and running for our Golden Hill art room.  Throughout the school year I will post about what discoveries we are making in the art room.  Golden Hill art room project pictures, artist of the month clues, and my PAX leader students and classes that have received TOOTLES,  will all be showcased here.

What is this ARTIST of the MONTH?  Each month, starting this month of November, I will post clues and photos of original work about this month's chosen artist.  With the help of an adult at home, I encourage all my students to research as a family and see if you can figure out the chosen artist of the month.  Send your guess in with your child on a slip of paper.

 Include the following on your paper:

 Student Name
Grade
Teacher
Name of the artist you think it is

There is an envelope on the Artist of the Month bulletin board outside my classroom where guesses can be submitted.  I will choose one winner from all the correct guesses at the end of the month!

ART OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM

Let’s keep the creativity flowing while we are away from school!!! Even though we may not be meeting once a week in my art room, my Golden Hill PAX Eagles, I wanted to put together some ideas of how we can extend what we have already been learning in the art room into where you are right now.  I have also created a few ART CHALLENGES for you to work on with your adults at home and any brothers or sisters that might want to help!  You don’t have to stick to the activities for your grade, feel free to give any of the following ideas a try over the next few weeks we are away! MATERIALS NEEDED? I say use whatever you can find.  I know in my art room I encourage all of you to use pencil first but if you have pens, markers, crayons, scissors to cut up magazines or junk mail, any of that will work.  If you have access to sidewalk chalk you can use sidewalks outside. Find a stick and try some of these ideas by scratching into the dirt. Get outside and find objects from nature

Fall Happenings in the Art Room

Happy Fall to everyone!  All Golden Hill Eagles have been busy eagles exploring a variety of media in the art room.  Here's a photo gallery and brief explanation of what all our PAX Eagles have been learning. Kindergarten:  PHEW!  Ask your littles about all the hard work their hands and fingers had to do to create these amazing paper bag Fall inspired trees.  We studied the parts of a tree and exhausted our finger muscles while twisting and TWISTING to create these lovely work of art!!!! Here are a few pictures of our fall art lesson using materials from nature.  I introduced our Kindergartners to the artist Andrew Goldsworthy who creates art with and out in nature.   Students had the opportunity to leaf print and explore building a temporary piece of art with pieces of nature collected from the beach.   Grade One:  ROY G BIV! So what is going on in 2020 in Mrs. Smullin's art room?

Happy New Year Golden Hill Eagles!  I can not believe we just welcomed in the year 2020 !  Many exciting things are planned for the upcoming months and I wanted to take a few moments to fill you in about some of the events upcoming and happening right now.   Doodle for G o o g l e Art contest going on NOW! It just so happens that this year's Doodle for Google theme is "I show kindness by..."!  What a fantastic connection with our PAX program.  How can we as PAX leaders show kindness?       For those that are not familiar with the Doodle for Google contest, each year they invite students to recreate their Google logo to incorporate a theme.  Kids can use any media to create with.  In the end, the final product (which can be photographed if it uses three-dimensional materials), needs to fit on the official google entry form and be post marked by March 13, 2020.  I have set up a bulletin board about this contest outside of my art room with copies of all forms
